BROTHER OF MINE

Located in Baldivis, in a hidden away shopping complex, Brother of Mine is one of my devout favourite spots. I don’t think iv’e ever gone longer than 3 weeks without a visit to this place, even if it is just for a coffee break whilst studying. BOM is the perfect Sunday brunch location (what we like to make a ritual of) with their outside seats just perfect when its a sunny warm morning. Inside, the decor is very laid back and inviting with a blue interior, pot plants, bee hive suits hanging up and the best part of all: their giant coffee roasting machine in the corner.

BOM specialise is roasting their own unique blends ranging from fruity and tropical notes to bold chocolatey toffee tastes. My favourite beans to buy are definitely their Intergalactic blend (which is also their most popular). Intergalactic’s origin is Costa Rican (Sabanilla de Alajuela), Ethiopian (Yirgacheffe) and Kenyan (Ndia Division). Its altitude elevation level ranges from 1500-1860 masl giving it that fruity citrus and chocolatey notes. Its process is washed and the notes of the beans range from raspberry, pineapple, cherry cola and toffee, so there is definitely a reason they say this blend is from another dimension. Notably, BOM also sell coffee equipment which is super handy rather than buying it online or from an over-priced retail store.

Although I always order a capp or flat white, I have changed it up a few times and ordered their fresh berry juice which did not disappoint. BOM’s milk bar section is quite extensive as well ranging from: vanilla bean fairy floss to peanut butter brownie milkshakes. BOM is one of few places that I would ever order a banana smoothie from, purely because they use fresh real banana rather than flavouring so you can taste the difference in quality.

One of the main reasons I adore BOM is because of their bacon Chilli scrambled eggs. I cannot even explain how incredible this dish is. Im never one to constantly order the same thing on the menu, but this dish just has the be the exception. Using fresh chilli, charred corn, spring onion and manchego cheese sprinkled over the top, this dish is just pure perfection on a plate. Before tasting this dish, I would always order BOM’s smashed avo when one day I was with my partner Stewart who ordered the chilli scrambled eggs. I said gross I would never order this as I am not a fan whatsoever of scrambled eggs, he insisted I try it and thank the heavens I listened. I will never go back to another dish after this. Its rare to find a chilli scrambled eggs that actually incorporate fresh chilli in the eggs rather than having a terrible chilli sauce poured over the top of scrambled eggs. The charred corn comes straight from the cob, and you can tell with the pieces sliced off together in big clumps. I never even bother reading the menu now at BOM as I know I will just be so purely satisfied with their chilli scrambled eggs, its just one of those dishes that you’d be willing to pay anything for it, its just that good.

I have however, tried majority of the menu and was not disappointed. Their BOM or bircher museli are both awesome dishes to have on a cold morning with seasonal fruits. The new Avo + Pea smash is also worth trying (and also rare to find in Perth) with herby whipped feta and soft poached eggs, the whipped feta is definitely the star of the dish. BOM’s Turkish eggs is also new to their menu and comprises of soft poached eggs on charred sourdough with labneh, chilli oil, chimichurri and dukka. Although the labneh yoghurt was a bit overpowering, the chilli oil gave it a nice spice kick. Notably, BOM’s jaffles are absolutely epic, my order of choice was their pulled pork and slaw one (although off the new menu now), they have created what looks to be an even better ‘Mac Daddy’ pulled pork burger with mac and cheese. BOM’s burger menu is very American themed and absolutely mouth-watering, particularly the Colonel and Breuben.

I am yet to try BOM’s new Brother Barbecue outside eating, based on American influenced food which looks absolutely divine and im sure I will pay that a visit soon. Overall, you will not be disappointed with a visit to BOM with their carefully curated coffee and exceptional dishes.
